MONEMVASIA
Monemvasia (Greek: Μονεμβασία) is a town and a municipality in Laconia, Greece. The town is located on a small island off the east coast of the Peloponnese. The island is linked to the mainland by a short causeway 200m in length. Its area consists mostly of a large plateau some 100 metres above sea level, up to 300 m wide and 1 km long, the site of a powerful medieval fortress. The town walls and many Byzantine churches remain from the medieval period.
KOULENTIA
The village of Koulentia is about 20 km from the Local Community of Monemvasia. The green dominates since it is located at an altitude of over 500 meters. There are running waters in the area. The Cultural Association has marked several hiking trails for those who love walking.
KYPARISSI
The coastal village of Kyparissi consists of the settlements Vrysi, Paralia, Mitropoli and the settlement Kapsala. It belongs to the mountain type and has a total area of 65,000 acres of which 7.3000pm are arable land, 48.2000 acres pastures named by the Municipality, 0.4000 acres.private pastures and 8.5000 acres forests.
LIRA
Lira is also a settlement of the Municipality of Monemvasia with a long history. Until 1770, Lira was characterized as the largest village in the region, along with the settlements of Kalyves and Teria.
The old settlement in Lira has a large percentage of preserved houses and in Teria there are a few traditional houses which are used occasionally. Eotokou, a church of Byzantine times, as well as Agia Anna of the 12th century and Agios Antonios. Two watermills are still preserved.
In Lira it is worth seeing Ai Tzouras, the Holy Apostles and the Prophet Elias, which are all temples of Byzantine and post-Byzantine times.
MOLAOI
Molaoi is the capital of the new “Kallikratikos” Municipality of Monemvasia.
The city is built on the western outskirts of the small homonymous plain, 61 km SE of Sparta, at an altitude of 200 m. At the foot of Mount Kourkoulas. It has SE orientation towards Parnonas and Monemvasia.
It is the Administrative Center of a wider area with a Regional Hospital, Nursing Home – Asylum for the Elderly, Urban Planning Office, Police, G.E.F.-D.O.Y., Magistrates Court, Forest Office, KEP, Fire Service, Public Library , Banks (Alpha, Ethniki, Piraeus).
